BUSY BEE!

Time to update! I have been so busy lately i haven't even taken a moment to breathe!I guess i'll start with the usual update on the status of my bum shoulder. I am happy to report that it is getting better daily! My strength is returning nicely thanks to multiple physical therapy visits a week paired with twice a week treatments with my trainer. I have started increasing the intensity of my judo sessions everyday also.I am being very careful and trying not to push the limits on what im capable…See More

Things are looking up!

Time for an update! I have been making a gradual comeback to Judo over the last few weeks and am so happy to say that I am right on track to be poised and ready for London! I did some hard training last night at practice and my shoulder felt surprisingly great! I will be picking up the intensity as the weeks go on. Unfortunately, i had to pull out of the Pan American Championships that are taking place this weekend in Montreal. I was a little bummed about it and i will most definitely drop in…See More

106 days to go!

There are 106 days until the Olympics begin. I cant wait to start the 100 day countdown! When you put it in terms of days it just seems so much closer. I have definitely been feeling the Olympic fever lately. I have done quite a few interviews and photo sessions in the last month and am excited to see how they turn out as the Olympics get nearer.- In other news, in case you missed it. My coach Yosh Uchida was featured in the New York Times on April 2nd for being awesome. Haha! Check out the…See More

Doing Judo with a UFC Champion*

So things have been going pretty well over here on the west coast. My shoulder rehab is progressing nicely and i have been back on the mat for almost 2 weeks now. Unfortunately i had to slow down a little after getting a little to excited to be fighting again- but slow and steady wins the race- so i am back-tracking a little on the intensity of my training. I am in the process of coming to terms with a slow progression back to "fighting shape," as much as it kills me.I did recently have the…See More

Its amazing what can happen in 2 weeks.

Well, I am happy to report that in the 2 weeks since my last blog my shoulder has gone from kind of bad to kind of good! I must admit that if I had to do nothing but one handed uchikomis for one more day I may have self imploded. I have been doing my physical therapy religiously and being evaluated by my doctor every 2 days(which is easy when he's your boss and a sports medicine specialist!). So last week i was finally able to do some light randori and active moving with BOTH arms! It was…See More

Shoulder Update!

Well, its been about 2 weeks since i came home from Europe with my shoulder injury and things are looking good! I was evaluated a week ago and my doctor decided that it was a little too soon to start physical therapy, but i will be evaluated again on Wednesday and hopefully can start this week!-It has been like torture going to judo practice and watching everyone fight it out while i stand on the side doing one armed uchikomis, but something is better than nothing and i have become the cardio…See More

Hungary Pains

I am in America! This makes me happy and sad. Its nice to be back on American soil but also depressing since i came home a week early due to an injury. When i fought in the Hungary World Cup last week i started the day feeling ok. I won my first match against Romania and then was up against the same Chinese girl i beat the week earlier in Paris. It was a close match which i ended up losing by decision when we were both scoreless in overtime. At some point in the match i ended up landing on and…See More
